David DeMets, UW ICTR Assistant Director
David L. DeMets, PhD, is UW-Madison ICTR Assistant Director for the Biostatistics and Biomedical Informatics Core. He also serves as Professor and Chair for the Department of Biostatistics and Medical Informatics on the UW-Madison campus. Dr. DeMets serves on the CTSA National Biostats/Epidemiology/Research Design Key Function Committee.
Dr. DeMets works with investigators to assure they are properly guided in the cadre of multidisciplinary Biostatistics and Biomedical Informatics that allows for accelerating translation of research findings into evidence-based policies and practices.
Dr. DeMets research interests include methods for the analyses of clinical trials, sequential methods used for interim analysis, monitoring accumulating data for clinical trials, and survival and longitudinal studies. He has over 175 publications. Since receiving his PhD in 1970 from the University of Minnesota, he has been very active in the design, conduct, and analysis of clinical trials in several areas of disease.
Dr. DeMets is a recognized international leader in statistical research and methods for the analysis of clinical trials. He has collaborated in the development of statistical methods for the sequential analysis of outcome data and the design of clinical trials. He has extensive national and international clinical trial experience and has served on and chaired numerous NIH and industry sponsored Data Safety and Monitoring Committees for clinical trials in diverse disciplines.
