Nizar Jarjour, UW ICTR Assistant Director
Nizar Jarjour, MD, is Assistant Director of the Clinical and Translational Research Core (CTRC) and a Professor of Medicine and Head, Pulmonary and Allergy Section at the University of Wisconsin - School of Medicine - Department of Medicine. He will also have ICTR oversight for clinical projects at the UW-Clinical and Translational Research Core (CTRC) and other ICTR satellite units around the state.
Dr. Jarjour has worked with the GCRC as an investigator for more than 15 years and served as an Assistant Director of the GCRC since 1999, chairing the Quality Assurance and Improvement Committee and having responsibility for the GCRC Sleep Research Core Laboratory. His research interests have spanned basic science research, clinical research and community-based clinical interventional research.
As an active clinician-investigator with substantive NIH funding for study of the pathogenesis of asthma, and as the section head of Pulmonary and Allergy, Dr. Jarjour brings administrative, clinical as well as research experience to his new role. The University of Wisconsin asthma research group is participating in several NIH sponsored clinical research networks/programs including the Inner City Asthma Consortium (ICAC), Asthma Clinical Research Network (ACRN), Childhood Asthma Research and Education network (CARE), and the Severe Asthma Research Program (SARP). Dr. Jarjour’s involvement and familiarity with adult and pediatric research in his section is a distinct advantage for building the CTRC without walls to accommodate both pediatric and adult research.
