ICTR Scientific Writing Workshop

March 4-5, 2010

The Scientific Writing workshop offers two sections: a one-day Manuscript Writing section (March 4th) and a one-day Grant Writing section (March 5th). This workshop targets residents, fellows, junior faculty and graduate students in health professions who conduct (or plan to conduct) clinical research. It is designed to meet individual and institutional needs to enhance training programs for clinical investigators. Lectures, discussions and writing exercises are used to teach knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in manuscript and grant writing.

By the end of the manuscript writing section, participants will be better able to:

  • Identify opportunities for submission
  • Plan, organize and outline a written manuscript
  • Construct and write a 250-word abstract
  • Critique a research publication
  • Manage ethical issues (authorship, plagiarism) surrounding scientific publication

By the end of the grant writing section, participants will be better able to:

  • Write a clear and persuasive grant narrative using appropriate language and organization
  • Select appropriate funding sources for research
  • Plan a timeline for grant submissions
  • Correctly complete application forms
  • Seek appropriate approvals for submission
  • Prepare a budget for a grant application

Registration and fees:
$75 - Manuscript Writing (Thursday, March 4)
$75 - Grant Writing (Friday, March 5)
$150 - Both days (March 4 & 5)
