Offered by ICTR, the annual Short Course in Clinical Research provides medical professionals training in clinical research. This intensive conference is conducted over two days and is specifically geared to those participants whose schedules would not allow a more longitudinal approach or to participants who do not have a comparable program within their work environments.
The Short Course provides training in ethics, biostatistics, study design, teaching and presentation skills, leadership and scientific writing, and exposes participants to current topics and issues related to clinical research.
The specific aims of the Short Course in Clinical Research include:
- Provide an overview of the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to conduct clinical research in a scientifically sound and ethically responsible manner;
- Introduce participants to examples of clinical research that utilize minority and underrepresented populations;
- Expose participants to various research methodologies that are used to asses and compare new treatments, for diseases affecting multiple populations; and
- Teach skills that enhance academic career development
