Starting Nov. 1, 2008, the UWHC Clinical Laboratories will offer special laboratory test discounts to members of the Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR). The lists of research tests offered will cover the full range of testing performed on site and are, in some cases, 80% off the retail cost. The new research charges are substantially lower than the current federal research discounts currently available through the Office of Clinical Trials (OCT), which average 65% off retail.

The new ICTR member research prices will be offered to all new investigator-initiated projects (those not currently in the OCT database), since other studies are already working under OCT contract guarantees of no price changes during three years of a project. When that time period ends, or if a project goes into a “no cost” extension, the Principal Investigator (PI) can apply for the new ICTR-UWHC rates. Investigator-initiated projects include all federal studies, pilot studies, foundation studies, department studies, and others. Not included are any studies developed by industry.

Only laboratory tests are in the ICTR Member discounted list. Not affected by the new rates are already discounted research rates for procedures, room costs, and other non-laboratory items. All clinical laboratory charges (non-research, standard of care) will be at the current UWHC laboratory rates for clinical care.
